Ok, I admit that the Go Go curry jingle is permanently stuck in my head. This popular katsu curry rice joint has several outlets in Tokyo and even franchises around the world. You can't miss their gorilla mascot logo! We went to an outlet in Shibuya to get a taste of the real deal!
Like most Japanese eateries, you place your orders via a machine- you select what flavours you want and also select additional condiments/toppings/ingredients. You pay for your order here, hand the ticket to the staff and wait for your pipping hot curry rice to be served!
I had their chicken katsu curry rice with extra cheese. The curry is very thick and flavourful, just mildly spicy and went surprisingly well with the cheese toppings. Every bite of the crispy chicken katsu with the curry rice is true bliss. Each plate of curry rice comes with shredded cabbage, I guess to make this dish "healthier", but the fresh crunchy cabbage does actually complement the dish.
